Leading the Movement is designed to meet the needs of sector leaders.
Our ambition is to have an offer that supports everyone that’s working to tackle inequalities.
There are several different aspects to our offer, some are for everyone, and others are deliberately targeted at officers and Board members, working within specific organisations and partnerships. Our offer will continue to evolve.
Our vision
Our vision is to create a diverse, thriving, community of leaders who are supported, empowered, skilled and united in the movement to tackle inequalities in sport and physical activity.
Our mission
We’re on a mission to support sector leaders so they can confidently and successfully drive the change needed to tackle inequalities in sport and physical activity and achieve the ambitions of Uniting the Movement.
Our aims
Our aims are to:
- Identify and understand the challenges faced by sector leaders working to tackle inequalities.
- Explore solutions to these challenges though engagement, training, coaching, mentoring and content development.
- Better connect leaders and encourage collaboration to enable the exchange of information, ideas and learning.
- Provide targeted support to diverse leaders, and leaders working with under-served communities, to ensure they feel more confident and better equipped to tackle inequalities.
- Provide and signpost to universally accessible information, guidance and opportunities that inspire, support, enable and empower leaders to tackle inequalities and drive long-term, systemic change.
For leaders, by leaders
What do we mean by a leader?
Being a leader isn’t determined by job titles or seniority, it’s about wanting to make a difference, creating change and opening up opportunities for more people to live active lives. If you work to tackle these inequalities, or you support the people that do, then you're part of ‘Leading the Movement’.
Leading the Movement
Sport England
Leading the Movement is funded by The National Lottery and created by Sport England. It has, and will continue to be, founded on research, consultation and insight from leaders in the sector.
Our strategy, Uniting the Movement, sets out our ambitions to ensure the benefits of being physically active are equally accessible to everyone.
We know tackling these deep-rooted inequalities is hard work - it takes time and often requires a deliberate change in the way we all do things including the culture we promote, the partnerships we form and the policies and practices we develop.
We all have a role to play in tackling the inequalities within sport and physical activity. Real change can’t be achieved alone; it takes strong leadership.
