Why Leading the Movement?

Chevy is an experienced leader within the sport and physical activity sector and was proud to be a mentor in the first cycle of the programme. With a strong background in supporting and developing others, Chevy brought valuable experience, honest insights and reflective feedback to his mentees.

"The structure and support from Leading the Movement made the whole experience smooth and meaningful."

Mentor experiences

  • Although his mentee worked in a difference sport, their shared experiences helped conversations flow naturally.
  • The connection was built on genuine trust and made each session enjoyable and meaningful.
  • Chevy found it rewarding the see his mentee grow in confidence and put his advice into practice.
  • Their clear plan and structure approach kept the process smooth and focussed.

"We set our ground rules early; how we'd communicate, when we'd meet. That made everything flow smoothly."

  • Mentoring benefits

Chevy built a positive and rewarding relationship with his mentee, stating that the whole process reminded him why he loved developing and supporting others. Further benefits included:

    • Developing a strong bond: An easy connection bolstered with growing trust.
    • Defining a clear structure: Sessions were focussed and professional.
    • Having flexibility: Allowing sessions to fit around work and other commitments.
    • A supportive team: Access and availability from the wider Leading the Movement team.
    • Reflective opportunities: Strengthening Chevy's leadership skills through reflection and growth.
    • Rewarding outputs: Seeing his mentee grow and thrive.

Impacts and reflections

"The experience reaffirmed my belief in how powerful mentoring can be."

Chevy spoke highly of the Leading the Movement team, noting how clear, supportive and flexible they were throughout his mentoring process. He found the mentor induction really useful for setting things up and building early confidence. The accompanying resources were easy to use and further support was immediately available.

In future, Chevy would like to see more options for in person mentoring opportunities and greater flexibility around check-in session times.
