Individual mentoring

Individual mentoring is focussed on a particular opportunity or challenge related to tackling inequalities. This challenge will be personal to each leader, identified by them when self-nominating to be part of the programme.

An appropriate mentor is paired to each leader following a ‘Welcome and Onboarding’ call, to provide the lived or professional experience relevant to that challenge.

Mentoring typically involves, between the mentor and the mentee, a two-way interaction including discussion, exploration, listening and questioning. The majority of sessions are carried out virtually, however some of our mentees and mentors have met up in person if geography allows.

What's involved?

Leaders who become mentees are asked to fully commit to the individual mentoring programme. This means making the most of the time given and expertise shared by their mentor. In addition, they are expected to be willing to take responsibility for managing the session arrangements with their mentor, preparing for sessions and undertaking agreed actions between sessions.

Our mentoring programme typically lasts for three-to-four months. Onboarded mentees will attend:

A 25-minute welcome call and 40-minute upskilling video. A mentee is matched to the appropriate mentor.

Following a “Getting to know each other” call, up to five (minimum of three) one-hour mentoring sessions.

A 90-minute reflective learning session with other mentors and mentees to share learnings from the mentoring experience.
